So it has been a long painful process. 2 years ago I setup my website hosting 15 gigs of video for medical students learning chemistry. We offered the service for free because of a couple things:
1st, with vBulletin, there is no support for locally hosted video and I couldn't stream my content so I had to allow everyone to download the avi files at which point naturally I lost all control over the files.
2nd, I didn't think I could charge for such a crappy system where people had to download the files, install codecs which may or may not have worked on their PC/Mac...

It blew my mind that I couldn't do streaming local video but oh well. So last Thanksgiving to my joyful inbox came the news, vB4 coming soon with VIDEO SUPPORT!!!

In my joy and trust of vBulletin I upgraded to vB4 WITHOUT BACKING UP!!!! Don't be that guy, seriously, just don't. By then I realized the video support they were offering was embedding youtube and other garbage on the site, it did nothing for me.

Actually it was a little worse than nothing, by now someone "GEEK" had come out with AME, but it only supported vB3 to host local videos. Of course without the backup, it did me no good. So nothing much changed on my site other than my frustration and the frequent bouts of trying to get it working during every holiday break from med school...

Finally over spring break someone mentioned vBTUBE. Hadn't heard of the guy before, but looked into it and it was perfect for what I needed. Finally I could host videos locally, stream them like youtube, and integrate a membership system which will allow me to turn a profit.

Not sure if it is the system for you, but if you are like me and have been beating your head against a wall till it is mushy, go try it out.

Disclaimer:
1st: I am a customer, not a salesman nor affiliated in any way.
2nd: Check out the support history on his site. So far he has helped me through most things, but personally I found threads weeks old with no response, it may be he PMed the solution since the threads diddn't get bumped, but at some points I was worried that my problems would be those threads left to wander alone. The software works, the support is there, you just have to be patient as I get the feeling it is a side job for him (I could be wrong).

You can see some of my videos at http://www.coursesaver.com. You can't see all of them because as explained, I am working on making a little money with the setup. Check out the funny videos category for free videos.
